Applications are logged in by the date the completed packet is received. Applicants will be invited to the first available Basic Class based on the order in which the completed application packet is received.
The West Virginia State Police Academy has no "backlog" or "waitlist" for officers to attend a Basic Class

2026 Recertification / Equivalent Course
Recertification and Equivalency certification is now conducted a "sit-in" course conducted over the 15 weeks of the Basic Officer course period. Those officers who have petitioned the LEPS committee for recertification or equivalent training to be certified as a law enforcement officer in West Virginia must make application with the WVSP Academy through Mrs. Watson, linda.m.watson@wvsp.gov, or, 304-766-5800
March 9th to March 20th
July 6th to July 17th
October 26th to November 6th
The following items must be completed, and submitted for acceptance into the training program:
Application for Admission to Basic Police Training School.
Medical History Statement and Medical Examination Report. (Included Application Above)
One Federal Bureau of Investigation, Applicant Fingerprint cards (FD-258);
Sticker WVSP 39F (Release of Information) signed and attached to the back of one fingerprint card
Lab test results; Blood Chemistry (chem 20 or equivalent), Complete Blood Count(CBC), Urinalysis, Tuberculosis (Mantoux), Electrocardiogram (ECG - resting), Drug Screening DOH -5 or 8-10 Panel.
