Welcome from the Colonel

On behalf of the men and women of the West Virginia State Police, I welcome you to our website. This site includes information on the services we provide to the citizens of West Virginia and its visitors as well as missing persons and most wanted listings and sex offender registry information. I also urge individuals interested in becoming a member of the West Virginia State Police to view the recruiting link.

Our agency was created in 1919 and is the fourth oldest state police agency in the United States. Our sworn members have proudly served the citizens of the state with honor, bravery, and professionalism for more than 90 years. The reputation we enjoy is a representation of the character of the men and women who have served, and continue to serve within the ranks. While all members have endured sacrifices for the common good, some members made the ultimate sacrifice. We honor those members who gave their lives in the line of duty in order to preserve the privileges of living in a free and just society.

The West Virginia State Police focus daily on providing statewide enforcement of criminal and traffic laws with emphasis on providing basic enforcement and citizen protection from criminal depredation throughout the state and maintaining the safety of the state’s public streets, roads, and highways. Sworn personnel work in various disciplines such as Special Operations, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Crime Scene Response, Internet Crimes, West Virginia Intelligence Exchange, West Virginia Fusion Center, Crimes Against Children, and K-9 Unit.

Thank you for your interest in one of the nation’s premier state police agencies.
