Vest Saves Trooper's Life

11/9/2011

In March of 2011, First Sgt. Bob Mefford was in a stand off in Lincoln County. First Sgt. Mefford says there is, "No doubt whatsoever, that his vest and our K-9 that we lost was what kept me alive that day."

During the stand off, Jesse Roger Stacy allegedly fired shots at officers and then barricaded himself in his home. When it was all over the K-9 named Zoey had been shot and killed along with the gunman. First Sgt. Mefford also took a bullet which fortunately was stopped by his vest. The company which produces these life saving devices, Safariland, gives a no-cost replacement to the officer when the vest is utilized.
